Rome Total Realism Forum

Hi I am new to the forums so I am very sorry if I'm not accustomed to the etiquette here:Came across this while googling and saw that the knowledge and experience of the forum members here was vast and interesting so I have a couple of questions aboutRome Total Realism Platinum 1.9 editionFirst of all I am really amazed and the game is really refreshing! The Italian Swordsmen are more or less mercenary/auxiliary Hastati. But, in Custom Battle, Rebels, I also find Latin Infantry, which are exactly the same as Hastati, bar the beige coloring. You can't build more than one type of Temple persay, but you can build a minor temple (only goes up to level 2 building) for each of the other gods once a major shrine has been built.I don't think there's a walkthrough.Italian Spearmen work well against Hoplites, if they're assisted by cavalry once they've engaged (charge into the flanks/rear).Yeah, the AI's diplomacy is a little wierder. For example, you can't bribe a rebel general (that starts off in a settlement, say, Paestum) unless you have 500,000 denarii (glitch). You'll just have to grin and bear the AI. Rebel Generals that start out in the beginning in a settlement have a trait which bars them from being bribed, or attacking anyone besides sallying.A few tips I've found as Rome:Once Southern Italy is yours, prepare a stack for Greece.

Macedon by now should have taken out the Greeks there and will be a powerhouse by the time they get to your northern cities. But their rear will be hardly defended.A tactic I like to use on RTR is to take a city I know I wouldn't be able to hold, and make it so no one else can recruit from that city until all the buildings are remade. So attack Exterminate Build Auxilia building Leave. It is very effective at reducing their ability to fight you.You WANT some kind of missile unit in every army. I prefer slingers, but archers are a must when you go up against Carthage.Romans don't have Testudo anymore.Balistas are really good when you have 3+ in an army.

Set your army up behind it, then have them 'retreat' behind your lines and wait till the battle is done, or you can let them withdraw.Welcome! It would depend on which RTR version you download and what time period it covers. Romans weren't using the testudo formation until around 66-65 BC (estimate) and that's after the time period that RTR Gold/Platinum covers according to their site so they're somehow still trying to keep it as 'realistic' as possible.BTW, if you're interested in finding more info about the mod, you can go to their official website:If you like Romans, definitevly check out a good mod based around them called Roma Surrectum. It features 35 legions. This message has been edited by Imperator Romano (edited @ 09:34 PM).
